Located almost in the center of Mallorca, near Algaida, right by the motorway/exit, is the "Château Vino de la Isla," which Henri Fink and Timo Koch have magnificently renovated from an old leather factory, establishing their winery there, completed in 2024. The reason for this is that anyone wishing to purchase land outside of towns in Mallorca must own at least 1.5 hectares. As is well known, many Germans have been drawn to Mallorca to buy or build a detached house or a finca. But what to do with so much land? Planting vines that thrive in the dry summers seems like a good option. And so Henri Fink and Timo Koch came up with the idea of providing these "mini-vineyard owners" with a complete service, from pruning and soil cultivation to pest control and harvesting, as well as winemaking, bottling, and distribution support, thus fulfilling the owners' dream of owning their own wine estate. Meanwhile, well over 100 small estates from west to east and north to south across Mallorca are fully managed, with a total of around 100 hectares of vineyards.Top wine shop and stylish presentations
The tasting machines in the Château's large reception and event room are truly intriguing. You receive an electronic card and can then have tasting portions automatically poured into your glass – for a small fee – allowing you to sample wines at your leisure. This way, you can taste wines from all over Mallorca. Payment is then processed via the card at the exit.
The website lists exciting Château Vino de la Isla event and presentation dates – lively, almost "chic" gatherings! On April 25, 2026, I had the opportunity to attend one such presentation and was very impressed. There were many wines available for tasting, both from the tasting machines as from several larger wine estates. I particularly enjoyed many of them, and I'd like to share my thoughts on them here – wines that I rated with 90 or more bonvinitas points, even though time constraints prevented me from providing very detailed descriptions. See my rating system. The wines presented below are all dry – although there were also sweet options – and all bear the "Vino de la Tierra Mallorca" quality designation – a protected geographical indication.
Very nice white wines
Bonviva Sauvignon Blanc 2025

12.5% ABV, bottled by Vino de la Isla, which I rated with 90 red bonvinitas points (red = category 2, dry, over 12% ABV): Floral on the nose, with floral notes, especially green bell pepper; powerful and fruity on the palate with an equally powerful finish and a hint of salt. The small finca with only 31 ares of vines near Manacor was a dream come true for the American Jaimi Cyrus and her partner.
Son Amaret Chardonnay 2024
13.5% ABV, aged for 12 months in barriques, bottled by Son Amaret in Manacor, rated 91 red points by Bonvinitas : A very fruity nose with hints of orange; a very pleasant, powerful, full body; an equally powerful finish with a distinct backbone and a long lingering aftertaste. With 11 hectares, the Son Amaret wine estate is one of the larger ones in Mallorca. Behind it is the owner, Dr. Thomas Bühler, from a winegrowing family in the Kaiserstuhl region in Germany's south whose winemaking tradition dates back 225 years. Just a few steps away, he opened the small, elegant boutique hotel Vinoresort Son Amaret in 2024.
A'Mano Giro Ros 2025
12%, produced by Mario & Norbert Schulz and bottled by Finca Vina Felanitx in Felanitx – rated with very good 93 bonvinitas points (green = dry up to 12%): Fresh aroma with notes of gooseberries and subtle olives; on the palate, a powerful and highly interesting wine, opening somewhat angularly before becoming very appealingly rounded with pepper and paprika notes that linger long into the finish. Giro Ros is a white grape variety predominantly grown in Spain, and especially on Mallorca, whose wines are particularly impressive for their freshness. Mario & Norbert Schulz run their considerable 16-hectare estate with great enthusiasm, also in Felanitx, the second largest wine-growing region of Mallorca. I am always particularly pleased to find such lighter, high-quality wines, which I award with green points.
Great rosé
Bonviva Vino Rosado Syrah 2025
12%, bottled by Vino de la Isla - 90 green bonvinitas points : On the nose, hints of strawberries and tangerines; on the palate, strong, easy-drinking, with a slightly earthy undertone, and an equally powerful finish with a subtle smoothness.
Cangrejo Rosado Manto Negro and Syrah 2025
13%, bottled by Vino de la Isla - 91 bonvinitas points : Fresh, delicate aroma with peach notes; unfolds lively on the palate, with power that culminates in a slightly peppery, salty finish. Manto Negro is an indigenous Mallorcan red wine grape variety, which, with over 300 hectares, represents a significant portion of Mallorca's approximately 2,500 hectares of vineyards.
A'Mano Rosado Manto Negro and Syrah 2025
12.5%, from Mario & Norbert Schulz, also bottled by Finca Vina Felanitx in Felanitx - I particularly enjoyed: 92 bonvinitas points : A wine that promises character right from the first sniff – with notes that reminded me of white-cheeked compote; A very full-bodied wine that absolutely delivers on the promise of the bouquet, with slightly peppery notes, nicely dry, from which a lot of power comes.
Excellent red wines
14.5% ABV, aged 24 months in barrique barrels, also bottled by Son Amaret – 90 bonvinitas points (red): Deep aroma with hints of Morello cherry compote, vanilla, and tar; fruity on the palate with soft tannins and a subtle peppery undertone; a very harmonious finish with lovely cassis notes.
JUST WINE RED Merlot 2023
A little gem, I really enjoyed it from the tasting machines, 93 bonvinitas points : The aroma also offers notes of Morello cherry compote and nougat; full-bodied, rich, and easy-drinking on the palate; a very fruity finish – simply delightful!
The creators: Henri Fink and Timo Koch
Fink acts as winemaker/cellar master and managing director together with Timo Koch, who handles the business side of things as his partner. Originally from Northern Germany, Fink's love of wine began with a winemaking apprenticeship at the Moselle. This was followed by two years at a winery in the USA and training as a cellar master at Ohio State University. Not content with that, he also completed training as a technician for viticulture and oenology at the State Teaching and Research Institute for Viticulture and Fruit Growing in Weinsberg.
