Very elegant accompaniment:
Solid mineral structure:
2022 Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling "Großes Gewächs DER RING Mosel 1899", German quality wine Mosel dry, 12.5%, Wine Estate Martin Conrad, Brauneberg: Ripe scent with hints of nectarines, kumquat, bergamot, almond biscuits; rolls elegantly over the tongue to then present strong mineral notes that build up a firm structure that stays in the finish for a long time and fades away in fine peppery notes – was rated with 91 bonvinitas points (red = category 2, dry, over 12% alcohol) – goes well with smoked fish, old hard cheese or cordon bleu.
Great "adult" drink:
2021 Brauneberger Juffer Riesling "Großes Gewächs DER RING Mosel 1899", German quality wine Mosel dry, 12.5%, Wine Estate Martin Conrad, Brauneberg: Shimmers golden in the glass; in the bouquet fig, pine wood, hazelnut macaroons; starts on the tongue with a very firm consistency, which is again reminiscent of pine wood and swings to hazelnut biscuits; very firmly built finish, from which a gentle dab of white pepper rises - rated with 92 bonvinitas points - goes well with smoked pork and roast pork, yes also great with hearty pork knuckle.
Wonderfully silky, as if made for you:
2020 Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling "Großes Gewächs DER RING Mosel 1899", German quality wine Mosel dry, 12.5%, Wine Estate Martin Conrad, Brauneberg: Lively ripe-round scent of candied lemon peel, nectarines, orange cream with a hint of aromatic herbs; on the palate ripe and elegant as if made for you, a harmony experience from which subtly finely tuned mineral notes rise in the finish, which are accompanying for a long time - rated with 92 bonvinitas points – fits well with cream cheese, mussels or roast veal.
Wine Estate Martin Conrad
in Brauneberg/Mosel with 5.5 hectares has been in the family for generations, is now run by Martin Conrad and is a member of DER RING Mosel 1899. The vines grow in "grand cru sites" such as Juffer and Juffer-Sonnenuhr as well as in the glacial valley of nearby Mühlheim and Veldenz with a gradient of up to 80%, mainly on Devonian slate. According to the Prussian site classification of 1868, they are among the top sites based on the tax estimate. A classification that counts as the absolute oldest, older than that in Burgundy or Bordeaux. "Through ecological care in the vineyards, selection of the grapes by hand, gentle vinification with spontaneous fermentation by natural yeasts, we manage to bring out the unmistakable character from each vintage and each terroir," says Conrad. Which I can only confirm at this tasting. It's really remarkable how different the wines are.
