"The Sound of Wine"
as Matthis Reckendorfer calls his wines as well as this 2023 Riesling delicato dry, 12.5%, quality wine Lower Austria: Lively very appealing nose with hints of lemon juice, mirabelle plum jam, a hint of pineapple and the whole thing accompanied by a fine herbal note; on the tongue an equally lively fruit flanked by charming ripe volume, slightly salty; emphatically pleasant all-round harmonious lingering taste, in which a discreet temperament flashes: 95 bonvinitas points (red, category 2, dry over 12%).
Riesling has always been
Although, how could it be otherwise in Austria, Grüner Veltliner is in the foreground of the 15-hectare winery, Riesling has also been growing there for a long time, which is due to the microclimate there. In the far east of the Weinviertel, only two kilometres from the March, the border river to Slovakia, the vines lie on the slope of the Weinviertel hills, which rises there from the wide arable plain and recharges its heat, especially since it is also somewhat protected from the north winds. So it has always been a place for Riesling.
As individual as the music
The Reckendofers are a family of musicians. Father Karl had studied music with a focus on trumpet and had come to the winery through marriage. The sons Mattias, the current owner of the winery, and brother Georg are also active wind players.
On the question of how wine and music are combined: "Music is totally imaginative and individual. This is also how we see wine. Every site, every variety and every vintage is totally different. We work that out, and that is important to us. That's exactly how we understand music," explains Matthias.
